Neal Durling - Partner

My most powerful recollection as a child was the day I received my first pair of branded football boots.

Unfortunately, this was also the day my Dad had a serious accident that changed the course of his life and the lives of those around him.

While I wouldn't wish this experience on anyone, in many ways our family emerged stronger from the journey that followed. We learned the strength of the human spirit, that you can't spend money twice, and that life is a gift that cannot be taken for granted. I discovered what's most important to me, and these lessons shaped many of my decisions and values over the years.

When it came time for university, I knew what I wanted to do. I started off at London Business School, where I earned an honours degree in Business Studies, then moved on to further qualifications in financial planning. As I understood more about the role of a financial adviser, I started to see how my business knowledge and my early life lessons could work together.

Quite simply, I became passionate about using my financial expertise to help my clients become the architects of their own lives to help them achieve the personal goals that matter most to them.

Now, after almost 30 years in the financial services industry, I know I made the right decision. It's a privilege to advise our clients and to build long-term relationships. When I see them able to focus on their priorities in life, confident that their financial future is taken care of, I know the difference that we make each day, and that's important to me.

Perhaps due to my early experiences, I can't help feeling like a financial guardian to clients and their families. I take the trust that's placed in me and our team very seriously, and get great satisfaction from knowing that our clients can live life without financial surprises.

I also try to keep a sense of balance in my own life. Moving from the UK in 2000, my wife Amanda and I live with our daughters Annabelle and Jess in Brisbane's western suburbs. When not supporting them in their various activities, I enjoy tennis, golf, swimming, cycling and running.
